Frequently Asked Questions
Where are we located?
Our farm is on the edge of what used to be a coal mine in Coalhurst, Alberta.
What does "The Colliery" mean?
Colliery literally means ‘underground coal mine, together with its surface buildings’.
The reason we adopted this name is because coal and our once coal-mining community of Coalhurst are a big part of our story. We even find coil in our soil!
Are we organic?
As of now, we are not certified organic and we do not claim to be. However, in the sense of the word, we grow our produce naturally (organically, if you will) in outdoor soil without the use of pesticides, herbicides, additives, or any other chemicals. We pride ourselves in offering garden fresh veggies rich in nutrients for your family to enjoy. If you have any specific questions about our growing practises, feel free to reach out to us at hello@thecolliery.ca.
Do we have a farm store?
We do not have a store at our farm at this time. Our farm is only available for pick-up orders. You can find our produce stand at the Lethbridge Farmers’ Market in the summer months on Wednesdays between 9AM and 1PM.
Where else do we sell our produce?
You can expect to see us at a Farmers’ Market or two in the summer months, but we will let you know of dates and times. All of our produce is also available here online for delivery or pick-up.
Do we supply in the winter?
The lack of fresh, local produce available in the winter months is part of the reason we began our farm. This is something we are working towards and can’t wait to let you know when items are available in the winter.
Do we use pesticides?
NO. We never spray your veggies.
Do we have pickling cucumbers?
We do not have pickling cucumbers at this time.
Do we have dill?
We do have dill, and we are working towards having enough for everyody come canning season!
